Here for sale we have an absolutely stunning Martin HD-28 Dreadnought acoustic guitar in Gloss Natural finish. A dream guitar for many, this lavishly appointed instrument was crafted in the USA in 2004, and features an all-solid dovetail construction comprising a Spruce top, East Indian Rosewood back and sides, Select Hardwood neck and 20 fret Ebony fingerboard with matching bridge. The body is double bound in Antique White, whilst the top is handsomely adorned with Herringbone Purfling, Multi Stripe Rosette and Faux Tortoiseshell pickguard. The back is also embellished, featuring a multi-stripe zig-zag back strip. This instrument is equipped with a Bone nut and compensated saddle, as well as a set of Chrome sealed tuning machines. This particular example has been equipped with an aftermarket K&K direct-to-output undersaddle pickup.

The Select Hardwood neck plays very well, with the Modified Low Oval profile sitting very comfortably in the hand and providing easy fretting and ergonomic thumb positioning in all registers. The Ebony fingerboard is pleasant under the fingers, and with attractive Mother of Pearl inlays adds a real sense of luxury to an already opulent playing experience. The traditional 16" radius remains as practical as ever, well suited to both chordal, fingerstyle and melodic playing styles across the register. The Dreadnought body shape is comfortable in the arms, with the all-solid construction ensuring a resonant and lively experience for the player.

The voice of the Martin HD-28 is rich and beautiful, and really lives up to the reputation that this iconic guitar commands. The East Indian Rosewood back and sides provide a silky smooth bass response that remains detailed and accurate across the dynamic range. The mids are punchy and clear, and add a warmth and clarity to the tone. The top end is sparkly and bright, adding a glistening quality to every note played on the instrument. The dynamic range of the Martin HD-28 is truly impressive. Gentle playing is rewarded with a very tender and soft tone, ramping smoothly up to the rich, loud chord strumming sound that the Dreadnought is renowned for. The addition of an undersaddle pickup provides the versatility for live and recording situations. A truly fantastic example of an iconic instrument.

    Aesthetic Condition:

Headstock: Overall very good condition. The top edge demonstrates light to mild indentation, chipping the finish slightly to the bass side of the front edge. The rear face shows a light indentation close to the top, and a further light indentation can be seen to the bass side of the nut. The sides show light scratching consistent with the use of a string winder.

Neck: Overall very good condition. The rear of the neck demonstrates hazing of the finish alongside some infrequent light indentations and scratching which do not impact the playability of the instrument. The fingerboard edges show light indentation to both sides, most notably to the treble side at frets 4 & 5. The fingerboard demonstrates evidence of a previous neck reset in the very upper register where ebony has chipped from the fret slots and been glued back down.

Body: Overall very good condition. The front face demonstrates various scratching and light indentation, most notably towards the treble side of the lower bout and bottom edge. The pickguard shows milder scratching, consistent with mild playwear. The sides demonstrate moderate scratching, most notably to the bass side shoulder. The rear face demonstrates very light scratching visible under direct light, as is common with high gloss finishes.

    Condition of Frets:

The frets demonstrate light signs of use, not affecting playability. There is considerable material remaining for any fret work the new owner may wish to perform. The frets from the 15th to 20th appear to have been previously removed and re-seated, leaving some fret ends slightly exposed to the treble side. The fret ends are also slightly lifting, but this does not affect functionality.
