Here for sale we have an exquisite Åstrand Å-OM acoustic guitar in Gloss Natural finish. Åstrand guitars are all made by Ted Åstrand in his one-man workshop in Öland. Sweden. Ted personally builds 6-8 guitars a year entirely by hand, lavishing around 200 hours on the creation of each instrument. Each guitar that leaves the workshop represents Ted's years of study at The Academy of Musical Instruments in Stockholm, as well as an apprentice to Jason Kostal at Kostal Guitars in Phoenix, Arizona. Ted selects only the finest materials available and uses traditional methods and hand tools to craft instruments of sublime quality for his very lucky customers, most of whom have had to place a deposit and wait several months before the construction of their guitar even begins. 
 
The Å-OM is Ted's interpretation of the perfect mid-size acoustic. Taking a traditional OM as a starting point, the lower bout is slightly enlarged whilst the upper bout is downsized, for greater balance and comfort. The bracing pattern of Åstrand guitars allows the use of exceptionally thin tops. Being thinner means that the top resonates more freely, allowing the tonewoods to truly sing. This example was made in 2014 and features a bolt-on construction comprising a Bearclaw Swiss Spruce top, Madagascan Rosewood back and sides, Honduran Mahogany neck and 20 fret Ebony fingerboard with matching bridge. The body is intricately bound in a very fine line of Flamed Maple & Ebony which matches the purfling. This is echoed in the border of the rosette, which is also hand-inlaid with Rosewood. An unbleached Bone saddle and nut are fitted along with a set of Nickel Waverley open-gear tuners with Ebony buttons. 
 
The Honduran Mahogany neck pays beautifully, with a profile which might be described as a fairly substantial even 'C' shape. Whilst certainly not overly large, the profile does provide a reassuring amount of material to grasp. The 1.75" nut width allows for ample string spacing - perfect for fingerstyle players who like a little extra space to play intricate parts. The nut width also makes the neck feel a little larger in the left hand, again improving the accuracy of your playing without going so far as to be too wide for players with smaller hands. The Ebony of the fretboard is supremely luxurious under the fingers, and provides a smooth, durable and sumptuous surface for musical exploration. Holding the guitar in the arms, it is clear that Ted's choice to enlarge the lower bout and shrink the upper has the desired effect of increasing comfort & balance, with hours of playing melting away without a trace of fatigue.
 
The acoustic voice of the Åstrand Å-OM is the epitome of balance. The traditional OM body is already a go-to choice for fingerstyle players thanks to its even response, and with the subtle adjustments made by Ted Åstrand, this guitar takes that to another level. The stunning Bearclaw Swiss Spruce top resonates beautifully, feeling incredibly responsive because it's so thin. Indeed, there is plenty of dynamic range to be enjoyed, with soft playing yielding an intimate sound ranging up to a gorgeous, rich and full voice when adding some more power to the right hand. The Madagascan Rosewood back and sides produce a warm yet detailed low end & mid range response whilst the Spruce top adds a sizzling brightness which adds sparkling colour to every note played on the instrument. An exquisite piece which will bring countless hours of pleasure to its new owner.
