Here for sale we have a Yamaha SJ-180 in Natural finish. Made in China this guitar features a Mahogany neck with 20 fret Rosewood fingerboard. The body consists of Mahogany back and sides with Spruce top. Other Yamaha Japan closed gear tuning machines and Rosewood bridge.
The Mahogany neck feels similar to a soft V profile that softens to a ‘C’ as you near the body. The Gloss finish to the rear assists with smooth navigation of the 25" scale, whilst the Rosewood of the fingerboard adds a touch of luxury to the playing experience. A 14" radius is featured, and provides a playing surface which is practical for a wide range of styles and techniques.
The Solid Spruce top projects well, with a deep low end and a rich and cutting midrange, pairing well with the articulation from the Mahogany back and sides. The body size promotes clear, open and uniform response across all 6 strings. Striking the perfect balance between the strong bass response and volume.

Aesthetic Condition:
Headstock: Overall good condition, the edges of the headstock demonstrate consistent indentation, chipping the finish to the bass side edges. Ageing and discoloration of the finish is apparent, with a consistent patch of indentations to the rear face causing a slight delamination of the finish. Light to moderate scratching is apparent throughout, visible under close inspection.
Neck: Overall good condition, the fingerboard demonstrates moderate playwear in the early register, with some degree of tooling marks apparent throughout likely from the use of a razorblade to scrape the board. The rear of the neck demonstrates consistent light to moderate indentation piercing the finish, discernible beneath the thumb. Moderate scratching is apparent to the rear of the neck. A very small crack to the finish can be seen to the bass side of the neck pocket.
Body: Overall good condition, all aspects of the body demonstrate light to moderate scratching and indentation that occasionally pierces the finish. This is most consistent to the front face lower bout, where several indentations have pierced the finish on the treble side. Some discoloration of the finish is apparent to the bass side of the soundhole.
Condition of Frets:
The frets demonstrate notable signs of use, with flattening of the crowns and some indentation apparent throughout the register. This causes a slight buzzing when playing with a heavy attack. There is only a small amount of material remaining for future fret work.
Current Set Up:
Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (5mm hex) not included.
Hardware: Fully functional with moderate signs of use.
Structural: The bridge has been shaved to accommodate a lower saddle height by the previous owner. This leaves the bridge approximately 4mm tall.
Height of the string from the 12th Fret-1.5mm - Bass 2mm
Please be aware that the action on a guitar may move slightly in transit and this measurement is the current height.

There is a small amount of the saddle remaining for future adjustments to the saddle.
This instrument has been set-up for fingerstyle. Players using a plectrum or a heavier attack may need to raise the action to eliminate string rattle.
