Here for sale we have a Yamaha CPX1200II electro-acoustic guitar in Transparent Black finish. Yamaha's APX Series was first introduced in 1987 with the aim of making acoustic guitars much more usable in stage settings; reducing the feedback that was inherent at the time without having to use a microphone or endure a lengthy soundcheck. The guitars proved extremely popular, and their APX line soon became one of the best selling electro-acoustic guitars in the world. The CPX series was introduced in 1998 as a more natural sounding & traditionally proportioned acoustic guitar, yet still carrying all of the innovative electronics & modern features of the APX line.
Made in China in 2015, this guitar is from the very top end of the CPX line up, and as such features an all-solid construction comprising a Spruce top, Rosewood back and sides, Mahogany neck and 22 fret Ebony fingerboard with matching bridge. The body is double-bound in Mahogany, whilst the rosette is also crafted from Mahogany. The Headstock is inlaid with MoP & Abalone. The Ebony fingerboard is inlaid with attractive Diamond MoP & Rosewood fret markers. A Urea saddle & nut are installed, along with a set of Gold sealed tuning machines. Yamaha's revolutionary SRT pickup/preamp system is installed, with extensive tonal controls & an on-board tuner built into the shoulder of the instrument.
The Mahogany neck plays fantastically well, with a profile which might be described as an even 'C' shape. This is a highly ergonomic shape which is comfortable for both chordal and melodic playing. The finish to the rear makes for smooth navigation of the 25.6" scale, and with the generous cutaway ensures that the full register of the instrument is easily accessible. The Ebony fretboard features a nice tight grain pattern & dark appearance, and with a nicely flat 16" radius is practical for a wide range of styles and techniques. The Ebony feels luxurious under the fingers, whilst the handsome inlays and Gold hardware remind the player that this guitar is a top of the line instrument.
The acoustic voice of the Yamaha CPX1200II is nicely balanced whilst producing plenty of volume & power thanks to it's medium jumbo design. Similar in size to a Grand Auditorium, the low end is unpronounced yet accurate whilst mids are punchy and clear. The Spruce and Rosewood construction provides a bright and sparkling treble response as well as a fast and snappy attack. This tone works equally as well as a solo instrument as it does blending into an ensemble or band. The SRT pickup/preamp system installed is the main event, delivering the signature CPX reliability and flexibility which we now expect from acoustic guitar pickups. A typically well-made and surprisingly luxuriously appointed instrument from Yamaha.
