Here for sale we have a Taylor 914ce Grand Auditorium Electro-Acoustic guitar in Gloss Natural finish. Made in the USA in 2001, this guitar features an all-solid bolt-on construction comprising a Sitka Spruce top, Indian Rosewood back & sides, Mahogany neck and 20 fret Ebony fingerboard with matching bridge. The body, neck and headstock are bound in Ivoroid, whilst the top features handsome Abalone pufling & rosette. The headstock is overlaid with Ebony, and is inlaid with a MoP motif to match the bridge & fingerboard inlays. A set of Gold Grover sealed tuning machines with Ebony buttons are fitted, as well as a Fishman/Taylor Prefix Stereo Blend hybrid pickup & preamp system is fitted, with extensive controls on the shoulder mounted preamp. Please read the 'electrics' section of the luthier report below for more information on this.
The Mahogany neck plays fabulously, with Taylor's ever-popular neck profile sitting comfortably in the hand and providing a smooth and responsive playing experience across the register. The profile might be described as a rather slim 'C' shape which encourages ergonomic thumb positioning and easy reach across the fretboard. The finish to the rear of the neck assists with smooth navigation of the 25.5" scale, whilst the venetian cutaway enhances access to the upper frets. The Ebony of the fingerboard is supremely luxurious to the touch, and with its 15" radius ensures practicality for a wide range of playing styles and techniques.
The Sitka Spruce top projects very well, delivering plenty of dynamic range and a nice warm tone. Much like Cedar, but with a slightly brighter top end and clearer articulation. The Indian Rosewood back and sides compliment this perfectly, giving the guitar a smooth transient response while still packing an excellent dynamic range. Being a Grand Auditorium, there is plenty of warm low end which refrains from sounding too soft. This works very well for both strummed chordal playing and fingerstyle, with a smooth & even balance across the frequency range. A luxurious & beautifully appointed instrument.

Along the lower bout several indentations are apparent, occasionally piercing the finish towards the treble side. A chip to the finish is apparent to the bass side of the fingerboard extension.
