Here for sale we have a Roger Guitar Junior Cut Away in Sunburst finish. Made in Germany in 1959, this guitar was made in the Mittenwald factory by Wensl Rossmeisl before the factory was relocated in 1960, Wensl is widely regarded as the first German electric guitar manufacturer and introduced innovative construction methods. This instrument features a set-neck construction comprising Maple back and sides, Spruce top which Wenzel developed the distinctive "German carve," a carved, indented perimeter around the top edge of the guitar body, Laminated 7-Piece neck and 20 fret Brazilian Rosewood fingerboard. This guitar is fitted with Nickel hardware including a Rosewood-mounted Tune-O-Matic bridge and Trapeze tailpiece. A set of Roger Open Gear tuning machines are also featured along with a Roger ‘Air Coil’ pickup traditionally in the neck position with pickguard mounted controls for volume and tone.
The 7-Piece neck plays exceptionally well. The profile is very comfortable with a thick profile filling the hand nicely for a substantial grip when chord playing, yet remaining slim enough for fast, articulate playing. This works in tandem with the 9.5" fingerboard radius to make jazzy chord voicings and smooth lines feel like a breezy and effortless affair. The single cutaway body design improves access to the upper register, meaning you can make use of all 21 frets. The shapely lines of the body feel great in the arms and with the German Carve top and back feel very comfortable in both standing and seated positions.
Unplugged the Roger projects superbly, with a smooth low end, a clear and focused midrange, along with tight, articulate highs. The floating Roger ‘Air Coil’ pickup compliments the acoustic tone beautifully, adding plenty of depth and a fullness in the low end. This guitar really shines at moderate levels, where you can appreciate the fullness of the amplified tone without losing out on the clarity and articulation found in the acoustic tone. Overall a lovely workhorse archtop, ideal for someone looking for an excellent vintage jazz instrument without breaking the bank!
