Here for sale we have a Patrick James Eggle Saluda Acoustic Guitar in Natural finish. Hand built by British luthier, Patrick James Eggle, the Saluda was designed for the all-round guitarist, with it's small jumbo-sized body delivering full, rich tones when strumming or playing fingerstyle. Having ceased building under his own name, this Patrick James Eggle has become somewhat of a rarity, and a beautiful one at that.
Made in Shropshire, UK in 2006, this guitar consists of a solid Sitka Spruce top, solid Flamed Maple back and sides, a Mahogany neck, and a 20-fret Ebony fingerboard. Other appointments include Koala Wood binding, Falling Leaves Inlays, PJE Enclosed tuners, an Ebony bridge, and a Nitrocellulose finish.
The Mahogany neck plays very well, with the 'C' profile sitting very comfortably in the hand and providing easy fretting and ergonomic thumb positioning in all registers. The Ebony fingerboard is pleasant under the fingers, and with attractive cross inlays adds a real sense of luxury to the playing experience. The traditional 14" radius remains as practical as ever, well suited to both chordal, fingerstyle and melodic playing styles across the register. The Small-Jumbo body shape is comfortable in the arms, with the all-solid construction ensuring a resonant and lively experience for the player.
The acoustic voice of the Saluda is quite surprising for a guitar so closely related to the jumbo. Of course, the large body delivers plenty of volume and a strong bass response. This is tempered however by the Maple back and sides. Renowned for its brightness, Maple works very well in this context because it balances so well with the prominent bass associated with large-body acoustics. There is also plenty of dynamic range on offer from the Sitka Spruce top, which projects fantastically whilst feeling sensitive to the player's touch.
