Here for sale we have a Patrick Eggle Guitars Berlin Pro electric guitar in 3-Tone Sunburst finish. Patrick James Eggle is one of the UK's most celebrated luthiers. Patrick Eggle Guitars was founded in the early '90s, and garnered acclaim for models such as the Berlin & Vienna. After a stint in the US hand-making acoustic and archtop guitars, Eggle returned to the UK to produce acoustic instruments for the likes of Jake Bugg & Frank Turner. He has subsequently been involved with brands such as Faith and Shergold, with his Faith guitars earning several 'Guitar of the Year' awards.
Due to the early-format serial number of this instrument, as well as information from the previous owner who ordered the guitar new, we believe it to be an early example from around '90-'92. Taking many design cues from the PRS Custom 24, this Berlin Pro features a set-neck construction comprising a Mahogany body with AAA Quilted Maple top, Mahogany neck and 24 fret Ebony fingerboard. The fingerboard is inlaid with a Mother of Pearl 'Falling Leaves' motif, whilst the top of the body is bound. Gold hardware is fitted including a Wilkinson locking tremolo bridge and Sperzel locking tuning machines. A pair of Patrick Eggle Balanced humbucking pickups are installed and are wired to a 3-way toggle switch, 3-position rotary inner/outer coil tap & master volume controls.
The Mahogany neck plays very well, with a profile which might be described as a slim 'C' shape, offering comfortable playability and easy reach across the register. The gloss finish to the rear assists with smooth navigation of the 25" scale, whilst the generous double cutaway body design ensures that access to the upper frets is unrestricted. The Ebony of the fingerboard is luxurious under the fingers, and with its beautiful inlays adds a real sense of luxury. The 7.25" radius adds a little bit of vintage flavour to the playing experience whilst remaining practical for a wide range of styles and techniques. The controls are well set out; well within reach when playing without being intrusive, and along with feeling well balanced on a strap, the Berlin Pro is an instrument which is comfortable and practical in any position.
The pair of Patrick Eggle Balanced humbucking pickups installed in this guitar deliver a powerful yet vintage-voiced tone, making them suitable for many different genres and playing styles. The neck position is round and warm, whilst providing plenty of grunt to push those solo sounds to the front of the mix. The bridge position is of course brighter, and can handle plenty of gain for a saturated rock rhythm sound. The 3-way switching with inner/outer coil tap control provides some extra tonal options over a typical twin humbucker instrument. A unique and quite rare instrument with outstanding pedigree, which now at more than 30 years old is gently accruing its own vintage vibe.

Aesthetic Condition:
Headstock: Overall very good condition. The top edge demonstrates a light indentation which does not pierce the finish. The sides and rear of the headstock demonstrate "blushing" or cloudiness of the clear coat. Light scratching to all aspects of the headstock is visible under direct light, as is common with high gloss finishes.
Neck: Overall very good condition. The rear of the neck demonstrates similar "blushing" of the finish. This is more apparent in some areas than others, particularly on the bass side upper register. This cannot be felt under the thumb and does not impact the playability of the instrument. A similar but smaller marking is seen at the treble side edge of the fingerboard at fret 3.
Body: Overall very good condition. The rear face demonstrates moderate buckle rash causing a slight hazing of the finish. A more notable scratch to the rear face is present beside the control cavity. The bottom edge has some chipping of the finish revealing the white base coat beneath. All aspects of the body demonstrate light scratching and indentation visible under direct lighting, as is common with high gloss finishes.
Condition of Frets:
The frets demonstrate moderate signs of use with flattening throughout the register. This does not affect playability. There is moderate material remaining for future fret work.
Current Set Up:
Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (4mm hex) included.
Hardware: The saddles, bridge plate and pickup rings demonstrate notable oxidation. Due to this, individual saddle height cannot be adjusted. However, the radius of the saddles is correct for the guitar and the action can be easily adjusted at the bridge posts, meaning the guitar is adjustable. The tremolo arm features an integrated locking system which fixes the bridge in place when the tremolo arm is not in use. This system does function but is not smooth, requiring some extra pressure to engage or disengage the lock. The new owner may wish to replace the bridge. The switch tip is discoloured.
Structural: No concerns or issues to note.
Height of the string from the 12th Fret-1.5mm - Bass 2mm
Please be aware that the action on a guitar may move slightly in transit and this measurement is the current height.
Strings on Guitar - 10-46

Original Patrick Eggle branded Hiscox Hard Case
