Here for sale we have an Ovation 1996 Collector's Edition Model 1996-TPB electro-acoustic guitar in Transparent Burgundy finish. Made in the USA in 1996 to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the founding of Ovation Guitars, this model was part of a limited run of just 1280 units worldwide, and featured several aesthetic refinements that make it stand out from the crowd. A set neck construction is employed, and comprises a solid Sitka Spruce top, Lyrachord Bowl back & sides, 5pc Mahogany/Maple/Ebony neck and 20 fret Ebony fingerboard with matching bridge. The body is bound in white, whilst the top features MoP purfling & MoP Oak leaf-design rosette. The fingerboard is inlaid with a '30th Anniversary' banner at the 12th fret, whilst the MoP purfling continues along either side of the fingerboard. A set of Gold Schaller tuners with Pearloid buttons are fitted. A Stereo HexFX Individual String Piezo Pickup System is fitted and is wired to an on-board preamp with controls for master volume & 3-band EQ.
The 5-pc Mahogany/Maple/Ebony neck plays well, with a profiel which might well be described as a Soft ‘V’ shape. This fills the hand comfortably without being at all cumbersome and offers a solid grip for effortless chord playing. The frets are on the larger side, somewhat like Medium Jumbo size. This assists with smooth melodic playing as well as vibrato & string bending techniques. The Ebony of the fingerboard is pleasant under the fingers, and with the 10" radius is practical for a wide range of playing styles & techniques. The cutaway design offers excellent access to the upper register whilst the Bowl back sits comfortably against the body in both seated and standing positions.
The 1996 Collector's Edition provides a bright and sparkly voice, with a focussed mid range that keeps things punchy. The low end is understated yet detailed, giving the guitar a very distinctive tone. The use of Ebony for the fingerboard and bridge ensure a fast and snappy attack that captures every nuance of your playing. The Solid Sitka Spruce top projects a bright and dynamic sonic range that sings each note complementing the tonal range of the Lyrachord back and Ebony fingerboard. The preamp system does a great job of interpreting the natural tone of the guitar, whilst the easy to use controls provide the player with comprehensive control of the amplified tone, perfect for a gigging musician.
