Here for sale we have a Martin Road Series SC-10E electro-acoustic guitar in Satin Natural finish. The unique SC shape was introduced at NAMM 2020 as an innovative new take on the electro-acoustic guitar, with modern features and functionality in a surprisingly traditional package. As part of the Road Series, the instrument is designed to be a practical and dependable guitar for the touring musician, with enhanced playability features and an excellent Fishman MX-T on-board preamp to amplify your playing on-stage or to facilitate recording. The offset body, deeper cutaway, slimmer neck profile and innovative heel design all converge to deliver an instrument that is supremely comfortable and perfectly equipped for life on the road.

Made in Mexico in 2022, this guitar features a bolt-on construction which makes use of Martin's new 'Sure Align' system. This innovative new design eliminates the traditional heel, and offers multi-way adjustability for easy set-up of the instrument. The body comprises a Solid Spruce top, and Fine Koa Veneer over Laminate back and sides. The neck is made from Select Hardwood, and is topped with a 20 fret Richlite fingerboard with matching bridge. A White Tusq saddle is fitted, along with a Corian nut and set of Black open-geared tuning machines. The SC-10E is a great option for those seeking value for money with an understated satin finish with black binding and a single-ring faux abalone rosette helping to keep costs affordable whilst retaining a classy aesthetic.

The Select Hardwood neck plays exceptionally well. Martin's new 'Low Profile Velocity' profile is certainly much speedier than more traditional designs from Martin, and feels nicely slim and sprightly in the hand. Clearly, the lack of heel and sculpted neck joint massively enhance access to the upper frets, and whilst the neck meets the body at the 13th fret rather than the 14th as is traditional, the heel design and deeper cutaway ensure that the top frets are accessible in a way which is unmatched on other acoustics. The offset body design feels nicely balanced in both seated and standing positions for comfort and practicality.

The acoustic voice of the Martin SC-10E is clear and bright whilst remaining balanced enough to accommodate a wide range of playing styles and techniques. The body is on the slimmer side, reminiscent in depth of an OM, but thanks to the offset design is larger in volume. This produces a warm yet understated bass response which works beautifully well for fingerstyle and melodic playing. There is an open & clear mid range which is perfect for strummed chords, with plenty of top end sparkle from the Spruce top. The Fishman MX-T on-board preamp works together with the Sonicore undersaddle piezo to faithfully convey this tone in any context; on-stage, busking, recording. An impressively innovative and practical instrument from a manufacturer widely regarded as traditional.

    Aesthetic Condition:

Headstock: Overall very good condition. The front face demonstrates scuffing and indentation particularly around the edges of the headstock, occasionally piercing the finish. The top edges demonstrate similar indentation chipping the finish and revealing the wood beneath at the rear edge. The finish to the treble side of the front face near the 1st E tuner shows exposed grain in contrast with the rest of the headplate. This is likely a grain pattern rather than finish wear.

Neck: Overall very good condition. The rear of the neck has buffed from satin to gloss through regular use, leaving a slightly sticky texture. Very light indentation & scratching is apparent throughout the register which cannot be felt under the thumb. This is most notable at the bass side near the 6th fret. The fingerboard demonstrates some notable wear after the last fret, likely from the use of a plectrum. This has worn dips into the wood.

Body: Overall very good condition. The front face demonstrates a patch of notable wear to the treble side of the fingerboard extension, wearing through the finish and revealing the natural wood beneath. This has discolored over time due to oxidation. Some very light indentation is apparent on the lower bout, visible only under direct lighting at certain angles. High traffic areas on the body such as the bass side lower bout and the treble side waist demonstrate buffing of the finish from satin to gloss through regular use. The sides of the instrument show infrequent scratching and indentation, most notably near the upper strap button.

    Condition of Frets:

The frets demonstrate moderate signs of use, with light indentation in the early register and flattening of the crowns throughout. There is considerable material remaining for any future fret work the new owner may wish to perform.

    Current Set Up:

Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (4mm hex) not included.

Hardware: Fully functional with light signs of use. The pickguard shows mild scratching consistent with playwear.

Structural: No concerns or issues to note.

Height of the string from the 12th Fret-1.5mm - Bass 2.5mm
