Here for sale we have a Line 6 Variax Bass 700 in Black finish. Made in Korea in 2005, this bass features a bolt-on construction comprising an Alder body, Maple neck and 21 fret Rosewood fingerboard. Chrome hardware is fitted including a top-loading 4-saddle bridge and sealed Chrome turning machines. Independent undersaddle piezo pickups are fitted, and are wired to Line 6's revolutionary Variax Modelling circuit. This employs a rotary control to select one of 24 emulated sounds which are based on iconic basses, both modern and vintage, as well as featuring a synth bass too. This bass also features controls for volume, blend and a stacked tone pot for independent bass and treble tone control.
The Maple neck plays very well. The profile might be described as a rounded 'C' shape in the lower frets, however it does taper as you climb the neck, meaning it feels nicely flat and manoeuvrable in the upper register. The 1.5" nut width and 34" scale length ensure that the playing experience is kept traditional, which is very welcome on a bass with such a wide array of sounds available. The Rosewood fingerboard is pleasant under the fingers and with its 10" radius is highly practical for both articulate lines and chordal playing, whilst the medium frets enhance vibrato feel.
The Line 6 Variax system is still astonishing even by today's standards. With 24 highly usable built-in sounds available right on the bass, it's incredible to think that this instrument is 20 years old. The range of sounds is truly impressive, with emulators for everything from a 1961 Jazz Bass through to a 2003 Modulus Flea Bass and even a Moog Mini Moog included, this bass can serve as a real workhorse for any gigging bass player. The controls are easy to navigate, with a 12-way rotary switch and mode select button on the volume control, selecting your modelled sound couldn't be easier.
