Here for sale we have an Ivison Dakota STD in Heavy Aged Tobacco Burst finish. Made in the UK in 2025, this guitar comes from the Worcestershire workshop of Neil Ivison, who set up there in 2018 after retiring from a busy touring schedule. Each instrument is handmade one at a time from raw lumber and transformed into a fine, vintage inspired and aged finish instrument using only the finest materials and a combination of traditional and modern construction techniques. Each guitar comes loaded with Ivison hand wired pickups and receives a meticulous setup before being sent out to its new owner. The brand is steadily developing a reputation for quality & excellent playability alongside vintage vibe & mojo, being seen in the hands of guitarists from Guns n' Roses to The Hives & The 1975.
With a design falling somewhere between a Les Paul Special & a Firebird, this guitar features a set-neck construction comprising a Korina body, one piece Korina neck and 22 fret Indian Rosewood fingerboard. Aged Nickel hardware is fitted including a Faber Compensated wrap-tail bridge, Bone nut & vintage-style Gotoh tuning machines. A pair of Ivison hand wound Freebird mini humbucking pickups are installed, and are wired to 3-way toggle switch and independent volume & tone controls.
The Korina neck plays beautifully, with the 'Slim' profile managing to retain enough substance to match the vintage look & feel of the instrument without being too chunky or cumbersome. The Rosewood of the fingerboard is nice & dark in appearance, and with it's tight grain pattern provides a smooth & durable playing surface right the way up to the 22nd fret. The Jescar 45100 fret wire can be described as 'medium wide', which works very well with the 12" fingerboard radius for fast lead playing, smooth string bending & comfort when rhythm playing.
The pair of Ivison Freebird mini humbucking pickups deliver thick & full bodied sounds, but as a mini humbucker sounds distinct & unique. With a tone that is somewhere between a full-size humbucker and a single coil, the sound is reminiscent of a PAF humbucker. Their smooth attack adds a grind when the amp is pushed into distortion, and the physically smaller size of the pickup results in a more mid-focused and brighter tone. An exquisite piece which has an unmistakable vintage vibe, yet modern reliability & playability.
