Here for sale we have an Ibanez Studio Series ST55 electric guitar in Brown Sunburst finish. Made in Japan in 1980, this guitar was only available in '79 & '80 before being replaced with the similar ST70- itself discontinued after one year and replaced with the rather different ST60. A set-neck construction is employed, and comprises a Laminated Birch & Mahogany body, Laminated Maple neck and 24 fret Rosewood fingerboard. Chrome hardware is fitted including a Quik Change tailpiece, Gibraltar bridge & Velvetune II sealed machine heads. A pair of Ibanez V2 exposed passive humbucking pickups are installed, and are wired to a 3-way toggle switch & independent volume & tone controls.
The Laminated Maple neck plays very well, with the 'Studio' profile feeling somewhat like a 'C' shape which sits very comfortably in the hand for a smooth & responsive playing experience across the register. The Rosewood of the fretboard is pleasant under the fingers and provides a smooth & durable playing surface to explore. The 10" radius is practical for a wide range of playing styles and techniques, and with frets which appear to be medium jumbo - certainly on the larger side- vibrato & string bending techniques are a smooth and effortless affair.
The pair of Ibanez V2 exposed passive humbuckers deliver thick & powerful tones, well suited to a wide range of genres. Clean tones sound clear & crisp, with plenty of detail across the frequency range. When driving the amp however, the pickups come alive. Seriously heavy tones are no problem, with lots of bite from the bridge for riffs & rhythm playing & power from the neck pickup which easily blasts your lead lines & solos to the front of the mix. Proof that Ibanez have always known how to make a great guitar, and at almost 50 years old, this is one with its very own vintage vibe.
