Here for sale we have a Höfner HCT-J17-E2 Hollow Body Electric Guitar in Black finish. Made in China in 2011, this guitar consists of a Maple body with an Arched Spruce top, a Maple neck, and a 22-fret Rosewood fingerboard. Other appointments include Chrome hardware, Chrome enclosed tuners, a Tune-o-Matic bridge, and a Hofner 'Lyre' style tailpiece. The pickups installed are a set of Hofner humbuckers, which are wired to two volume controls, two tone controls, and a three-way pickup selector.
The Maple neck plays very well, with the profile filling the hand nicely for a substantial but not cumbersome playing experience across the register. The profile could perhaps be described as an 'even 'C'' shape, which feels nicely comfortable and manageable in the hand for easy navigation of the 25.5" scale and easy reach in all fingerboard positions. The Rosewood is pleasant under the fingers and provides a smooth & durable playing surface right up to the 20th fret, which is easier to access thanks to the generous cutaway.
The acoustic tone of the Hofner Jazzica is warm and gentle, delivering an understated yet detailed low end, clear mid range and bright but not brittle treble response that beautifully colours the overall sound of the instrument. The two Hofner Humbucking Pickups sound meaty and thick without having too high of an output. When amplified, the guitar sounds very clear and articulate, and the pickups certainly translate this attribute well while also providing plenty of power. The HCT-J17-E2 is resonant, especially for a guitar of its impressive thickness and it sustains very well, feeling responsive yet controlled when plugged in.
