Here for sale we have a Gibson SG Standard Bass in Cherry finish. Made in the USA in 2011, this bass features a set-neck construction comprising a Mahogany body, Mahogany neck and 20 fret Rosewood fingerboard. Chrome hardware is fitted, including a Babicz FCH 3-Point bridge and Grover open-gear tuning machines. A pair of Gibson humbucking pickups are fitted, with the Rhythm SG Bass in the neck and Lead SG Bass in the bridge position. These are wired to independent volumes and a master tone control.
The Mahogany neck pays very well, with the 'Rounded' profile filling the hand nicely for a confidence-inspiring and comfortable grip in all registers. The 30.5" scale length is shorter than traditional for an electric bass, and is favoured by players with smaller hands or guitarists moonlighting as bass players. The Gloss finish to the rear assists with smooth navigation of the 20 fret Rosewood fingerboard. Pleasant under the fingers, the 12" fingerboard radius is as practical for a wide range of styles and playing techniques. The smooth and compact lines of the SG body are supremely comfortable in the arms, ensuring that playing for extended periods is a breeze in both standing and seated positions.
The pair of Gibson humbuckers installed in the SG Standard Bass deliver powerful, full-bodied bass tones that will add serious depth to any band's sound. The Rhythm SG Bass large humbucker in the neck position drives the sound, offering a warm yet accurate bass response and punchy mids. Aesthetic Condition:
Headstock: Overall very good condition. The front face demonstrates light scratching throughout, only visible under direct light at certain angles. Some chipping to the finish is apparent to the cutaway edges. The top edge of the front and rear face demonstrate chipping to the finish, most notably the centre of the rear face top edge, where the finish has come away to reveal the wood beneath.
Neck: Overall very good condition. An indentation is apparent to the rear of the neck, in line with the 2nd fret. This has marked but not removed any of the finish. Any markings to the fingerboard are difficult to discern.
Body: Overall good condition. All aspects of the body demonstrate light to mild scratching, scuff marks and indentations. Most notably to the lower bout edges and at the bass side screw of the neck pickup, where the chipping reveals the wood beneath. Notable scuffing is apparent to the bass side lower bout, near where the forearm rests. Finish repair work has been carried out by the previous owner, these can be seen at the rear face and near the treble side waist.
Condition of Frets:
The frets demonstrate light signs of use, with light flattening throughout the register, not affecting playability. There is considerable material remaining for any fret work the new owner may wish to perform.
Current Set Up:
Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (5/16" socket) not included.
Hardware: Fully functional and very good condition. Light scratching and tarnishing is apparent to the bridge, pickup covers and tuners.
Structural: No concerns or issues to note.
Height of the string from the 12th Fret-2mm - Bass 2.5mm
