Here for sale we have a rare Gibson SG-3 in Heritage Cherry finish. The SG-3 was a limited run made in 2007, with only 400 units produced. The earlier models featured a unique serial number system, with either a 'C' for Cherry or 'E' for Ebony followed by a 3 digit number showing when in the sequence of 400 the instrument was produced. Later models produced towards the end of '07 carried the standard 9 digit serial number and were sold throughout 2008. Naturally, a set-neck construction is employed and comprises a Mahogany body, Mahogany neck and 22 fret Rosewood fingerboard. Gold hardware is fitted including a Nashville TOM bridge, StopBar tailpiece and Gibson Deluxe tuning machines with 'Tulip' buttons. A trio of Gibson humbucking pickups are installed, with two '57 Classics in the neck and middle positions and a '57 Classic Plus in the bridge. These are wired to a 6-way rotary pickup selector, master volume & master tone controls.
The Mahogany neck plays fantastically, with the Rounded '50s profile feeling nicely slender in the hand and offering a smooth and responsive playing experience across the register. The profile could perhaps be described as a 'D' shape, with a slightly flattened area to the centre rear which encourages ergonomic thumb positioning in all registers and ensures easy reach across the fingerboard. There is no question that the top frets are much more easily accessible than on a Les Paul, with the slim neck heel and double-cutaway design opening up the full register of the instrument. Traditional 12" fingerboard radius is paired with medium jumbo frets to provide a playing surface which is comfortable and practical for a wide range of styles and techniques.
The Gibson '57 Classic/'57 Classic Plus humbuckers installed in this guitar are well regarded by Gibson players for their versatility. Whilst the hard rock tones you would expect from an SG are clearly present, the pickups also offer a nice smooth and rounded tone that is suitable for a wide range of styles. Country and Blues players will like the bite of bridge pickup, whilst the warmth of the neck position can be appropriate for jazzy sounds, especially when rolling down the tone control. The extra pickup in the middle position and resulting 6-way switching provide enhanced sonic versatility, making this SG practical for a much wider range of applications than most other models. An incredibly well preserved example of a very rare model

Aesthetic Condition:

Very light scratching to the front face is visible under direct light, as is common with high gloss finishes.
Neck: Overall excellent condition. The rear of the neck shows very light scratching near the heel when viewed under direct light and close scrutiny. These markings are not felt under the thumb and do not impact playability. Any other markings to the neck and fingerboard are difficult to discern.
Body: Overall excellent condition. The pickguard shows very light scratching consistent with playwear. Any other markings to the body are difficult to discern.
Condition of Frets:
