Here for sale we have a vintage Fender Telecaster in Refinished 3-Tone Sunburst finish. Made in the USA, this guitar was made at the dawn of a new era for Fender as they transitioned and entered into their CBS era, with the serial number, original pots and other identifying marks indicating that it was made in 1966. Naturally, a bolt-on construction is employed, and comprises an Alder body, Maple neck and 21 fret ‘Round-Lam’ Rosewood fingerboard. The hardware featured consists of an original Fender bridge plate with replaced late 60’s Plain Steel Saddles, a set of aftermarket Kluson style tuning machines have been fitted with the original tuning machines included. The original Telecaster single-coil pickups are installed with the neck pickup being rewound by Bare Knuckle pickups, these are wired to a aftermarket 3-way blade switch, master volume, master tone control with a Orange Drop capacitor.
The Maple neck plays very well, with the Oval 'C' profile which many consider to be the best of the Fender neck shapes the filling the hand nicely for a comfortable and practical grip across the register, whilst the natural play on the rear of the neck from years of use offers a inviting and familiar feeling, like shaking hands with an old friend. The 7.25" fingerboard radius provides this instrument with an authentically vintage playing experience, this paired with the vintage frets provide a feeling that cannot be replicated showing why these telecasters have been favoured by many famous musicians.
The original Fender single-coil pickups installed in this guitar deliver glassy, clear and precise tones with an authentically vintage set of tones, with the neck pickup measuring at 6.75kΩ, providing warm, glassy clean sounds that are perfect for rounding out solo lines or for rhythmic tonalities. The middle position is slightly brighter with a detailed mid range that is a perfect blend of the two single-coils, whilst the bridge position measures at 5.65kΩ provides all of the brightness and spank that you would expect. The pickups handle overdrive well, crunchy blues tones sound bold and saturated as you use the tone control. This guitar is an excellent example of why Fender have long been renowned as the pinnacle of guitar building, and why their designs have stood the test of time, a great opportunity to own a genuine piece of Fender's history.
Please be aware that for international buyers import fees are not included in our postage and packaging cost, this only covers the cost of the guitar being sent to you. Overall good condition, all aspects of the neck and fingerboard demonstrate notable scratching, chipping and indentations. This is most notable behind the 11th fret where the finish has chipped away and can be felt under the thumb. A chip repair is apparent on the bass side edge of the fingerboard at the 12th fret. A crack is visible to the heel when the neck is removed which has been repaired and does not demonstrate any structural concern. The 21st fret inlay displays a different shade to the rest of the inlays, indicating it might have been replaced at some stage in the past.
Overall good condition, this guitar has been refinished professionally some time previously. The finish appears to be polyurethane, but it has aged well and demonstrates wear and tear consistent with regular use. All aspects of the body demonstrate notable scratching, chipping and indentation. This is most apparent to the edges of the instrument where various sections of the finish have worn away revealing the wood beneath. The rear demonstrates notable buckle rash, denting the finish and revealing the wood beneath in places.

This instrument appears to have had a recent level and re-crown, which has been performed to a professional standard. There is moderate material remaining for further fret work.

Height of string from 12th Fret- Treble 1.5mm - Bass 2mm
Please be aware that the action on a guitar may move slightly in transit and this measurement is the current height.
The treble side of the bridge pickup cannot be lowered further. This instrument demonstrates some string rattle throughout the register, which is typical of instruments of this age.
It is worth carefully inspecting the photographs included with this listing to get a full picture of the wear and tear on this instrument. Although it demonstrates a lot of cosmetic markings, it plays very comfortably and is a testament to the build quality of early fenders.
Electrics:
Fully functional. The guitar has been re-wired and had all potentiometers and jack socket including plate replaced at some point. The original wiring loom is included. The wires on the original wiring loom are not original.
The neck pickup has been professionally rewound by Bare Knuckle pickups.
Case & Accessories:
circa.1960s Fender rectangular hard case. This is not the original case for the Telecaster but a case for a CBS era Stratocaster as can be seen by the outline markings inside the case of a 3-Bolt Stratocaster shape.
The case demonstrates notable signs of ageing remaining fully functional.
