Here for sale we have a Fender Standard Stratocaster 'Dan Smith' Electric Guitar in Sunburst finish. This guitar is from Fender's 'Dan Smith' era and was created as a way to make American-made Fender's more affordable. They made some significant changes to make this possible, including; moving the jack socket to the scratchplate to replace a tone pot, a single tone pot that controls the tone for all pickups, and a new Freeflyte bridge. The previous owner of this particular strat has had it modified to add a second tone control, and add the traditional Strat jack socket. The 12" fingerboard radius and the Slim C-shaped neck were introduced to keep guitarist's of the time interested in Stratocasters in an age where Super-Strats were all the rage.
Made in the USA in 1983, this guitar consists of an Alder body, a Maple neck, and a Maple fingerboard. Other appointments include Fender Die-cast tuners, a Freeflyte tremolo bridge, a 12" fingerboard radius, and a set of three single-coil Stratocaster pickups. These pickups are wired to a master volume, neck tone, middle tone, and a 5-way pickup selector.
The Maple neck plays well, with the 'Slim C' profile offering comfortable playability and easy reach across the register. Certainly, the neck will feel familiar to those used to Fenders' Modern 'C' profile. The Maple of the fingerboard is pleasant under the fingers, providing a smooth and durable playing surface. With a slightly untraditional 12" radius, the playing surface is well equipped for string bending and fast lead techniques whilst remaining practical for chordal playing. The smooth lines of the Stratocaster body are as comfortable in the arms as ever, reducing fatigue on long gigs and practice sessions.
Amplified, all of the vintage-inspired Stratocaster tones we expect are present and correct. The neck position is warm and round without being too soft; working very well for lead tones. The middle position is punchy and clear, perfect for funky rhythm parts. The bridge is of course brighter, easily cutting through the mix with crunchy rock rhythms and riffs. The traditional Stratocaster controls are as versatile and comprehensive as you could hope for, allowing you to dial in the perfect tone for almost any musical situation.

Aesthetic Condition:
Headstock: Overall very good condition, the top edges demonstrate consistent light to moderate indentation, chipping the finish in places. This continues around the perimeter of the headstock to a lesser degree, however some moderate indentations can be identified towards the treble side bottom corner. Some discoloration is apparent to the finish consistent with other examples from this era.
Neck: Overall good condition, the rear of the neck demonstrates consistent scratching and indentation throughout which can be felt beneath the thumb. The fingerboard demonstrates similar markings consistent with heavy use, with fingernail scratching throughout the entire register and areas at the first, second, third, and sixth frets where the finish has worn away revealing the wood beneath, which has further oxidized discoloring from the surrounding wood.
Body: Overall very good condition, the body has been modified to accommodate a traditional stratocaster jack socket & plate. This has been performed to a professional standard, and the location and quality of the router work is excellent. All aspects of the body demonstrate light scratching and indentation visible only under direct lighting at certain angles. This is most consistent towards the bottom edge of the rear face. The bass side of the neck pocket demonstrates a small finish crack that does not affect the structural stability of the instrument and is common with bolt-on neck construction.
Condition of Frets:
The frets demonstrate moderate signs of use, with flattening of the crowns throughout the register. There is moderate material remaining for future fret work.
Current Set Up:
Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (1/8" hex) not included.
Hardware: Fully functional with moderate signs of wear.
Structural: No concerns or issues to note.

Strings on Guitar - 10-46
This guitar demonstrates moderate fret noise which is moderately apparent when amplified. The new owner may choose to raise the action to alleviate this.
Electrics: Fully functional. An additional tone control has been fitted in a "standard stratocaster" conversion. The wiring is traditional, with no tone control for the bridge pickup.
