Here for sale we have a vintage Fender Mustang in Natural finish. The Mustang was originally introduced in 1964 as part of Fender's line of student guitars. The entire student line received a redesign that year, with the Duo Sonic and Musicmaster being styled around the new Mustang's offset body and separate control plate. The Duo Sonic II was eventually discontinued in '68 due to the popularity of the Mustang with its 'Dynamic' tremolo tailpiece. The Mustang remained in production throughout the CBS era until it's discontinuation in 1984. It was reissued in 1990 and several times after that due to the prevalence of it's use by popular musicians at the time, not least Kurt Cobain of Nirvana.
This example was made in the USA in 1977, and of course features a bolt-on construction comprising an Ash body, Maple neck and 22 fret Maple fingerboard. Nickel hardware is fitted including a set of 'F' stamped split-post tuning machines, Adjust-o-Matic bridge and Fender 'Dynamic' tremolo tailpiece. A pair of Fender covered single-coil pickups are installed, and are wired to independent 3-way slider switches, allowing for in & out of phase sounds as well as independent use of each pickup. A master volume & tone control are also included.
The Maple neck plays well, with a profile that will feel familiar to fans of Fender's popular 'C' Shape. It sits comfortably in the hand, promotes ergonomic thumb positioning and easy fretting in any register. The 24" scale provides a slinkier feel than the traditional Fender 25.5", perfect for those with smaller hands or players who use extended chords. The reduced string tension results in easier bending and vibrato techniques. The compact body size is supremely comfortable in the arms, perfect for energetic stage performances.
The pair of Mustang single-coil pickups installed deliver classic Fender tones in a simple and user-friendly package. The neck pickup is round and smooth, great for shimmering clean sounds and thick lead tones. The bridge pickup is brighter, allowing your rock and grunge rhythm lines to easily cut through the mix. The simple control layout offers comprehensive control of your tone without being intrusive to the playing experience, with responsive volume and tone controls that help you sculpt your sound. A seriously cool instrument with bags of vintage vibe.

Aesthetic Condition:
Headstock: Overall very good condition. Light to mild indentation is scattered around the perimeter of the headstock, most notably at the top rear edge where the wood is slightly exposed. Further indentation is present at the bass side front edge near the A tuner. The bass side front edge shows a few light chips in the lacquer which very slightly exposes the wood between the B & E tuners. Light checking of the finish is present across the front face, as can be expected with nitro finished guitars of this age.
Neck: Overall good condition. The fingerboard edges demonstrate playwear all the way through the finish, rounding the edges of the fingerboard slightly. This has continued on to the fretboard in some places, and some discoloration is apparent. This is present to both the bass and treble side edges but is most notable to the treble side. The rear of the neck demonstrates consistent light indentation throughout the register which can be lightly felt under the thumb but does not impact the overall playability of the instrument.
Body: Overall very good condition. All aspects of the body demonstrate light to moderate scratching, indentations and some chipping of the finish to the edges. This is most consistent to the bottom edge but is apparent throughout. The corners of the neck pocket demonstrate light finish cracking that does not affect the structural stability.
Condition of Frets:
The frets demonstrate notable signs of use, with denting & flattening throughout the register, most notably up to around fret 11, after which there is a notable improvement. This occasionally affects vibrato techniques and causes slight buzzing when bending. There is a small amount of material remaining for future fret work.

Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (flathead driver) not included.
Hardware: Fully functional with light signs of use, most notably indentation of the pickguard at the truss rod access. Tremolo arm not included.
Structural: No concerns or issues to note.
