Here for sale we have a very special Fender Jazz Bass in Natural finish. The Jazz Bass was the second electric bass guitar designed by Leo Fender, after 1951's Precision Bass. The Jazz Bass was introduced in 1960, mimicking the offset design of the Jazzmaster. The neck design was aimed towards Jazz players, featuring a slim profile which was more rounded than the P-Bass. The body was more extensively contoured than the Precision, making it more comfortable to play for longer durations. In later years these features were marketed towards guitarists, with Fender promotional materials claiming that 'Guitarists are home free on Fender's thin-neck bass.'

Made in the USA in 1976, this bass comes from the height of Fender's CBS era, and is loaded with period features including the bound fingerboard with pearloid block inlays, Bullet truss rod nut, 3-bolt neck plate, CBS Fender logo and a 'Thick Skin High Gloss' finish. This example benefits from an exceptional recent re-fret, massively improving playability and adding a new lease of life to a bass which is already 51 years old. Most of the original Chrome hardware is still present, including the pickup covers which were often removed by players. The two Jazz Bass 'high-output' single-coil pickups are wired to independent volume blend controls and a master tone.

The neck profile is certainly on the slim side, feeling nicely manageable in the hand for smooth and easy fretting across the entire register. The Rosewood of the fretboard is luxurious under the fingers, with the binding and Pearloid block inlays adding to the exclusive feel of the instrument. The years of playing this bass has seen add a real sense of mojo to the instrument which is very inspiring in the hands. Amplified, the pair of 'high-output' Jazz Bass single-coil pickups deliver an incredibly smooth yet distinct tone, brighter than the P-Bass thanks to the addition of a bridge pickup and extra tonal control, not to mention the Ash body which is typically brighter than Alder. With two pickups and comprehensive controls, the Jazz Bass has long been used by professional and session players for its versatility. The dual cutaways, generous contours and offset body design all add up to a bass which is well balanced, comfortable and highly playable. With the excellent re-fret too, this bass is ready for anyone looking for a practical instrument with authentic vintage charm.

    Aesthetic Condition:

Headstock: Overall good condition. The front face demonstrates a moderate indentation that chips the finish on top of the serial number. The serial is just discernible beneath the damage. All aspects of the headstock demonstrate consistent light scratching, moderate indentation and chipping of the finish which reveals the wood beneath in several places, most notable around the outside perimeter, particularly at the top edge. Mild discoloration of the finish is most notable around the edges of the headstock. We advise carefully inspecting the photos for a full understanding of the cosmetic condition.

Neck: Overall very good condition. The rear of the neck demonstrates some discoloration and indentation throughout the register which can be lightly felt under the thumb in the playing position. This is most notable to the treble side in the upper register. The fingerboard demonstrates some very slight chip out to the frets 13 & 14, only apparent under close inspection. The binding shows light yellowing, more notable on the treble side where a contrast with white is apparent.

Body: Overall good condition. All aspects of the body demonstrate scratching, indentation, chipping and wear of the finish. A small finish crack is apparent running from the treble side of the bridge cover to the control cavity. The most notable wear is to both the front face bass side lower bout and the rear face, where these high traffic areas have worn through to the wood beneath. Some notable discoloration and finish damage is apparent surrounding the top strap stud. We advise carefully inspecting the photos for a full understanding of the cosmetic condition.
