Here for sale we have a Fender Coronado I hollow electric guitar in Sunburst finish. The Coronado I was introduced in 1965 in an attempt to compete in the semi-hollow guitar market, which was dominated by Epiphone’s Casino series at the time. The Coronado was designed by ex-Rickenbacker designer Roger Rossmeisl.

A bolt on construction is employed, and comprises a double bound Laminated Maple body sporting two F holes, Maple neck and 21 fret Rosewood fingerboard. Chrome hardware is fitted including a Fender tailpiece along with a set of sealed Fender tuning machines. A Fender stamped DeArmond single-coil pickup is wired to volume and tone control.

The Maple neck plays very well, with the “D” Shape neck filling the hand nicely for a comfortable grip when chord playing, whilst remaining slim enough for fast articulate lead lines. The satin finish of the neck and fingerboard is pleasant in the hand and assists with smooth navigation of the 25.5" scale. The 7.25" fingerboard radius is traditional for Fender and provides a smooth and durable playing surface which is equally suitable for chordal and melodic playing styles, whilst the frets enhance vibrato and bending techniques. The body design with generous double cutaways is comfortable in the arms whilst ensuring unrestricted access to the upper frets.

The DeArmond pickup installed in this guitar delivers clear and full-bodied tones without having too high of an output, suitable for a broad range of genres and playing styles. The hollow construction of the body helps to provide a wide and sensitive dynamic range, as well as an open and airy tone with clean sounds. A unique and quite rare instrument which is sure to stand out from the crowd.

    Aesthetic Condition:

Headstock: Overall very good condition, the front face demonstrates checking of the finish typical of an instrument of this age. The front edge demonstrates some small chips to the finish and light indentations that reveal the wood beneath. The top edge demonstrates some scuffing and paint transfer.

Neck: Overall very good condition, the rear of the neck demonstrates very light scratching, scuffing and indentation throughout the register. This is very difficult to discern beneath the thumb and does not impact the overall playability of the instrument. The fingerboard demonstrates light to moderate playwear throughout the register that cannot be felt beneath the string.

Body: Overall very good condition, some binding seperation is apparent to the treble side cutaway, leaving a small gap between body and binding. All aspects of the body demonstrate light to moderate scratching, indentation and chipping of the finish. Holes are apparent to the body for a pickguard, however no pickguard is present. The rear face demonstrates some finish damage where the nitrocellulose finish has reacted with something.

    Condition of Frets:

The frets demonstrates notable signs of use, not affecting playability. There is not enough room remaining for future fret work.
