Here for sale we have a Fender Contemporary Power Jazz Bass Special Electric Bass which has been refinished in Black Sparkle. Made in Japan in 1988, this bass consists of an Alder body, a Maple neck, and a 22-fret Rosewood fingerboard. This bass has been heavily modified with appointments such as a Hipshot Kickass 4 bridge, Gotoh tuners, new strap locks, and a set of EMG X PJ pickups. These pickups have also been wired to an EMG BQS Preamp, with controls for master volume, blend, and a three-band EQ.
The Maple neck plays very comfortably, with Fenders ‘C’ profile filling the hand in an assuring fashion while still allowing for comfortable reach in all registers and promoting ergonomic thumb positioning. The double cutaway body design offers extended access into the upper register. This works well with the Satin finish to the rear of the neck, allowing for smooth navigation of the 34” scale. The 9.5” radius makes for a great feel under the fingers, and provides the versatility required for a wide range of styles and techniques.
Amplified, the pair of EMG X PJ pickups deliver thick and full bodied bass tones, with plenty of deep lows and a driving mid range that is sure to lay a solid foundation in any mix. The middle position is of course nicely round and warm, whilst the bridge position is bright and spanky, perfectly capturing all of the attack and sparkle from your playing. The on-board EMG BQS active preamp provides comprehensive control of your sound right on the instrument, with a pickup pan control and 3-band EQ allowing you to blend into any musical situation -or indeed stand out when you want to. A fabulously preserved example of an 80s instrument in a striking rare finish.

Aesthetic Condition:
Headstock: Overall very good condition. Light to mild indentations are present to all edges of the headstock, the most apparent of these can be seen to the top edge where light delamination can be seen.A light indentation is present to the rear of the headstock near the low E and A tuning machines, these have pierced the finish lightly discoloring the wood. A very fine crack can be seen near the low E tuning machine, this has previously been repaired to a professional standard. Light glue residue is present to the rear face around the tuning machines. Light to mild scratching is present to the front face which can be seen under direct light, common with gloss finishes.
Neck: Overall very good condition. Light indentations are present to the higher register of the fingerboard, these can be seen below the low E strings and can not be felt in the playing position. Light indentations Are present to the rear of the neck across the register, these can be felt lightly in the playing position.
Body: Overall very good condition. The body of this bass has had a full refinish to a professional standard. Light lacquer cracking can be seen to the body which can be seen under direct light under close scrutiny. Light hazing of the lacquer finish is present to all aspects of the body. Light scratching can also be seen to all aspects of the body with the most apparent being seen to the bass side cutaway edge.
Condition of Frets:
The frets demonstrate light signs of use, not affecting playability. There is moderate material remaining for any fret work the new owner may wish to perform.
Current Set Up:
Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (Flat head driver) not included.
Hardware: Overall very good condition. Fully functional. Several modifications have been made, including replacement of the tuning machines with Gotoh tuners, replacement of the original bridge to a Hipshot Kickass 4, replacement of the original controls knobs for EMG branded knobs & the fitting of straplocks. All the original parts are included.
Structural: No concerns or issues to note.
Height of the string from the 12th Fret-2mm - Bass 2.5mm
