Here for sale we have a simply exquisite Eastman Uptown AR910ce-BD archtop electric guitar in Blonde Truetone Gloss finish. Eastman Guitars was originally founded as Eastman Strings by Qian Ni in 1992. After humble beginnings as an importer of Chinese -made violins, the company expanded into producing its own instruments in Beijing around 1994, with the express purpose of proving that Chinese-made instruments could rival and even better those made in the USA & Europe. Anyone who has had the pleasure of playing or owning one of Eastman's impressive range of instruments will certainly argue that they have achieved that goal, and gone a very long way to improving the reputation of quality of Chinese-made instruments in general.
Made in China in 2008, this guitar features an all-solid set-neck construction comprising a hand-carved AAA Spruce top, hand-carved Flamed Maple back and sides, Maple neck and 22 fret Ebony fingerboard with matching head plate, bridge, pickguard & tailpiece. The body is double-bound in Flamed Maple, whilst the top features attractive multi-stripe purfling. A Bone nut is fitted, along with a set of Gold Schaller tuning machines with Ebony buttons. A Floating Lollar Johnny Smith mini-humbucking pickup is installed, and is wired to a master volume control, discreetly mounted under the pickguard - preserving the striking aesthetics of the instrument whilst still ensuring easy and convenient access whilst playing.
The Maple neck plays beautifully. The profile is moderately slim yet perhaps on the slightly wider side. This is perfect for smooth jazz lines and chording as it allows for easy reach and accurate fretting across the register. The figuring of the neck and binding add to the sense of luxury that this guitar exudes, and along with the deep richness of the Ebony fingerboard ensures that the playing experience matches the premium look of the instrument. At 17", the lower bout and overall body are certainly large, however the body is slightly slimmer than some other comparable archtops. This makes the body feel much more manageable and enhances the overall comfort of the instrument in both seated & standing positions.
The acoustic voice of the Eastman Uptown AR910ce-BD is distinctly Archtop. It delivers a smooth bass and middle response along with an accurate yet understated top end. It's clear to see why this design is favoured by Jazz players all over the world, and why it is so often replicated by a multitude of manufacturers. It manages to blend into a mix beautifully with a smooth and mellow tone, which at the same time manages to remain distinct when playing melodies. Whilst the hollow body produces plenty of acoustic volume, the addition of the Lollar Johnny Smith mini-humbucker means that you can easily play as part of an ensemble in any Jazz club of your choice. A typically beautifully made and exquisitely appointed instrument from Eastman.

Aesthetic Condition:
Headstock: Overall very good condition. The top edges, particularly to the rear, demonstrate consistent light indentation, chipping the finish & exposing the wood in places. The front face demonstrates some delamination of the finish surrounding the tuning machines. Light scratching to all aspects of the headstock is visible under direct light, as is common with high gloss finishes.
Neck: Overall excellent condition. The bass side edge of the fingerboard shows light wear of the finish, discolouring slightly in the upper register from around fret 15 upwards. Any other markings to the neck and fingerboard are difficult to discern.
Body: Overall very good condition. The front face demonstrates some moderate scratching and light indentation piercing the finish slightly, most notably around the bass side f-hole. A scratch that dents but does not pierce the finish is apparent to the rear near the neck heel. Further light indentation is apparent to both the front and rear lower bouts, visible only under direct lighting at certain angles, not piercing the finish.
Condition of Frets:
The frets demonstrate light signs of use, not affecting playability. Some fret ends are lifting, however this does not impact playability and they remain secure. There is considerable material remaining for any future fret work the new owner may wish to perform.
