Here for sale we have an absolutely sublime Collings OM1 SS acoustic guitar in High Gloss Nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Lovingly handcrafted in the USA in 2023, this beautiful instrument is the product of the luthiers at Bill Collings' revered workshop in Austin, Texas. Founded in 1973, Collings fell into the guitar building business through his natural interest in woodworking and engineering after he quit his pre-med course to work in a local machine shop. Constantly striving to improve and refine his instruments and craft, Collings instruments began to develop a reputation through the following decade as being amongst the finest available. The most exquisite materials are paired with meticulous attention to detail and master-craftsmanship to produce instruments of outstanding quality.
This OM1 SS model is a 'Standard' Orchestra Model, and features an all-solid construction with a hybrid mortise and tenon neck joint. The materials comprise Honduran Mahogany back and sides, Sitka Spruce top, Mahogany neck and 20 fret Ebony fingerboard with matching bridge. The body is double-bound in tortoiseshell, whilst the top is adorned with handsome multi-stripe purfling and rosette, as well as a tortoiseshell pickguard. The head plate is made from Ebony, and is inlaid with a real Mother of Pearl Collings logo, matching the short pattern fingerboard inlays. A Bone saddle and nut are fitted, along with a set of Nickel-finished Waverly open-geared tuning machines.
The Honduran Mahogany ‘Modified V’ profile neck promotes ergonomic thumb positioning and provides a suitably vintage-inspired playing experience and with its gloss finish provides a smooth and effortless surface to navigate up and down the neck. The 14"-26" Compound radius and 1.750" nut width allow for easy fretting in any register, whilst lending itself to chordal playing and finger picking styles in any register, and with the Ebony fingerboard adds a luxurious and opulent surface under the fingers. The Orchestra body shape feels comfortable in the arms providing a connected feeling when playing, whilst the smooth lines of the body ensure this instrument is comfortable and practical to play in seated or standing positions.
The acoustic voice of the OM1 SS is clear and punchy, the combination of specially selected wood comes together to create a deep, rich and full-bodied tone that is highly responsive to your playing. The Sitka Spruce top and Pre-War Scalloped X-Brace bracing ensures increased bass response projecting beautifully, delivering ample volume, dynamic range whilst retaining clarity throughout. The Honduran Mahogany back and sides provide a deep, rich and warm voicing with a defined low end, and smooth midrange. Playing gently produces warm, mellow sounds with the intimate tone needed for those quiet moments. Putting some snap and power behind your right hand rewards you with the powerful booming tones this guitar is capable of, a beautifully crafted instrument that can complement a wide variety of playing styles.
