Here for sale we have an absolutely sublime Collings CW Mh A acoustic guitar in High Gloss Nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Lovingly handcrafted in the USA, this beautiful instrument is the product of the luthiers at Bill Collings' revered workshop in Austin, Texas. Founded in 1973, Collings fell into the guitar building business through his natural interest in woodworking and engineering after he quit his pre-med course to work in a local machine shop. Constantly striving to improve and refine his instruments and craft, Collings instruments began to develop a reputation through the following decade as being amongst the finest available. The most exquisite materials are paired with meticulous attention to detail and master-craftsmanship to produce instruments of outstanding quality. 
 
This guitar is a modified version of Collings' standard Dreadnought design, with features often requested by flatpickers & bluegrass players. These include the use of Adirondack Spruce for the top & bracing, an enlarged soundhole, pre-war top bracing pattern, and visual features like the Dalmatian pickguard & lack of fingerboard inlays. Made in 2020, this guitar features a Hybrid Mortise & Tenon neck joint, which combines the best of traditional set-necks and bolt-on designs to provide the best stability as well as adjustability & ease when & if a repair is needed. Naturally, an all-solid construction is employed, and comprises an Adirondack Spruce top, Honduran Mahogany back & sides, Honduran Mahogany neck and 20 fret Ebony fingerboard with matching bridge. A Bone saddle & nut are fitted, along with a set of Nickel Waverly tuning machines. 
 
The Honduran Mahogany neck plays very well. The Modified 'V' profile is supremely comfortable, and delivers a suitably pre-war inspired playing experience. The high gloss finish provides a quick and fluid playing surface , allowing the hand to move with ease. The Ebony of the fingerboard is luxurious under the fingers thanks to its dark appearance & tight grain pattern. Its compound radius provides comfort for chord playing in the lower register and practicality for melodic playing higher up the neck. The nut width at 1.71875" is nicely practical for both chordal and melodic playing, offering ample string spacing for accurate fretting without feeling too wide. 
 
The acoustic voice of the Collings CW Mh A is rich and warm, delivering all the power and wide frequency response that we expect from a dreadnought. The large body size provides ample bass response, which whilst strong is not overpowering. Honduran Mahogany back and sides produce warmth, depth and character, as well as open and clear mids. The top end is chiming and bright thanks to the fabulous quality of the Adirondack Spruce top and bracing, Indeed, it's easy to see why Mahogany and Spruce are often viewed as the dream combination of tonewoods. An impeccably appointed instrument with plenty of visual enhancements that make it stand out from the crowd aesthetically, with the sonic character to match.
