Here for sale we have a lovely Washburn Falcon in Sunburst finish. Made in Japan in 1980, this guitar comes from Washburn's famed Wing Series, available from about 1978-1984 and known for fantastic Japanese craftsmanship, neck-thru construction, high quality hardware and innovative push/pull coil split technology - something which was not commonplace at the time. Of course featuring a neck-thru construction, this instrument was likely made in the well-regarded Matsumoku plant and comprises an Ash body with hand-carved Solid Maple top, 5pc Maple/Rosewood neck and 22 fret Ebony fingerboard. Chrome hardware is fitted including a 'Harmonic Lock' string-thru-body bridge & sealed Washburn tuning machines. Brass block saddles are fitted, along with a Brass nut to match the fingebroard inlays. A pair of Washburn passive 'Power Sustain' humbucking pickups are installed, and are wired to a 3-way toggle switch & independent volume & tone controls, along with independent coil split functions. 
 
The 5pc Maple/Rosewood neck plays very well, with a profile which might be described as a 'Rounded C' shape. This offers comfortable playability & easy reach in all registers. Being a rounded shape, the 'shoulders' of the neck feel slightly larger than is common today which makes the neck feel fairly large in the hand for a vintage-inspired playing experience. Given the age of this guitar this feels very appropriate & inspiring in the hands. There is a reassuring weight to the instrument at 9.1lbs which feels great in the arms. The thru-neck construction and Washburn 'Negative Heel' design offer completely unrestricted access to the upper frets, really opening up the full range of the instrument. 
 
Amplified, the pair of Washburn 'Power Sustain' open-coil humbucking pickups deliver thick & full-bodied tones, perfect for anything from blues & rock through to heavy rock & metal. Aesthetically reminiscent of the DiMarzio Super Distortion, the tone of the pickups is not dissimilar, producing warmth & clarity with clean tones and some seriously saturated distortion tones when driving the amp. The neck is round and powerful, and can easily push your melodic lines & solos to the front of the mix. The bridge is of course brighter, and with a hotter output sounds fantastic on rock rhythm parts & riffs. The addition of push/pull coil splits adds the versatility of single-coil style sounds for the quieter sections of the set. A seriously cool instrument from a well-regarded era in Washburn's history.
