Taylor Academy 12-N Matte Natural 2021 Electro-Classical Guitar
Here for sale we have a Taylor Academy 12-N Electro-Classical guitar in Matte Natural finish. Made in Mexico in 2021, this guitar features a bolt-on construction comprising a Solid Lutz Spruce top, Layered Sapele back and sides, Mahogany neck and 17 fret West African Crelicam Ebony fingerboard with matching bridge. A White Micarta saddle is fitted, with a White Tusq nut, along with Nickel Classical tuners with Faux Pearl buttons. A LR Baggs Lyric Classical Internal Microphone has been retrofitted with a single soundhole control for a master volume.
 
The Mahogany neck plays very well, with Taylor's 'Standard Carve' neck profile providing a smooth and responsive playing experience across the register. The Matte finish to the rear is pleasant to the touch and assists with navigation of the 25.5" scale. The nut width of 1.882" will feel familiar to classical players without putting off those who are more used to steel-string acoustics. Certainly, the strings are well-spaced for accurate fretting across the register. The West African Crelicam fingerboard is particularly dark in appearance, and with a nice tight grain adds a sense of luxury to the playing experience whilst providing a smooth and durable playing surface. 
 
The acoustic voice of the Taylor 12-N is nicely balanced, with the Grand Concert body size providing plenty of bass response alongside an open and clear mid range. The use of Layered Sapele for the back and sides adds a rich depth to the sound, meaning that the low end is characterful; warm without being too soft and delivering surprising accuracy. The Solid Lutz Spruce top adds a brightness and snappy attack to the top end, and resonates very well, helping to facilitate a wide and sensitive dynamic range. The LR Baggs Lyric Classical Internal microphone faithfully conveys the acoustic voice of the instrument, making it suitable for both live and recording situations.

    Aesthetic Condition:

    Overall good condition, the top edge demonstrates consistent indentation and chipping of the finish which reveals the wood beneath. These markings continue less frequently around the perimeter of the headstock. Much lighter indentation is infrequently apparent to the front and rear face, most notably beside the E tuning machine on the front face. 

    Overall very good condition, the rear of the neck demonstrates consistent light indentation which cannot be discerned from the texture of the grain under the thumb. The rear of the neck has buffed from satin to gloss through regular use. 

    Overall good condition, due to low humidity exposure the bracing pattern can be felt through the top. This is reversible and we are currently humidifying the guitar to resolve this. The edges of the guitar demonstrate moderate to notable chipping and indentation, most notably to the bottom front face edge. The front face demonstrates glossing and discoloration of the finish to the treble side of the soundhole. Some very small paint transfer is apparent to the rear edges which we have been unable to resolve through regular cleaning. 


    Condition of Frets:

    The frets demonstrate very light signs of use, not affecting playability.  There is considerable material remaining for any fret work the new owner may wish to perform.

     

    Current Set Up:

    Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (1/4" socket) not included.

    Hardware: Fully functional with light signs of wear.

    Structural: due to low humidity exposure the bracing pattern can be felt through the top. This is reversible and we are currently humidifying the guitar to resolve this. 

    Strings on Guitar - Rotosound Superia Normal Tension.

    Height of string from 12th Fret- Treble 3mm - Bass 3mm

    Please be aware that the action on a guitar may move slightly in transit and this measurement is the current height.

    There is a small amount of material remaining in the saddle for further adjustments.
