Here for sale we have a special limited edition LTD2017 Magome in Gloss Midnight Blue finish. Handcrafted in Japan in 2017, this guitar commemorates the 400 year old Nakasendō highway which ran from Edo (modern day Tokyo) to Kyoto. The 300 mile stretch took travellers through the Kiso Valley in Gifu and the village station of Magome where many would stop to rest their horses, eat and sleep. The Takamine LTD2017 Magome pays tribute to the fine craftsmanship of the area, where Takamine guitars are made today.
This instrument features an all-solid construction comprising a Spruce top, Rosewood back and sides, Mahogany neck and 20 fret Ebony fingerboard with matching bridge. The body is double bound, whilst the top is adorned with Abalone purfling and rosette. The Ebony fingerboard is intricately inlaid with an abalone 'Legend of the Road' motif, featuring horses, lanterns and a water wheel. A Bone saddle and nut are fitted, along with Gold Gotoh Takamine tuning machines. A Takamine Palathetic undersaddle piezo pickup is installed, and is wired to a Takamine CTP3 CoolTube preamp with controls for volume, EQ, notch, CoolTube tone control and an on-board tuner.
The Mahogany neck plays beautifully, with a profile which might be described as a 'U' shape. This certainly feels substantial in the hand and inspires confidence for chord playing, yet remains slim enough for articulate melodic playing across the register. The gloss finish to the rear assists with smooth navigation of the 25.5" scale, whilst the cutaway body design enhances access to the upper register. The Ebony fingerboard is luxurious under the fingers and provides a smooth and durable playing surface. The beautifully intricate inlay-work adds a sense of inspiration, making your lines and melodies feel as though they're traversing the great Nakasendō like the many travellers of the Japanese Edo period.
As is typical of Takamine guitars, the tone of the LTD2017 Magome is beautiful, rich and well-balanced. The OM body size strikes a perfect blend of the strong bass response of the dreadnought and the intimacy of the parlor, offering incredible evenness across all 6 strings. The all-solid construction ensures rich resonance for a lively and responsive playing experience with plenty of dynamic range and control. The winning combination of Spruce & Rosewood delivers both warmth and brightness, making the instrument suitable for both chordal and melodic playing styles in equal measure. The Takamine pickup and preamp system makes use of a 12AU7 tube which runs at low voltages to provide extra warmth, richness and fullness to the sound. A typically well-crafted instrument from Takamine with a unique look and feel that is very inspiring in the hands.
