Here for sale we have a Squier Standard Stratocaster in Arctic White finish. Made in Japan between '84-'87, this instrument is stamped 'ST-357V' on the neck butt, and STD-62 in the neck pocket. Given the single-ply 8-hole pickguard and Maple fingerboard, we believe this to be loosely based on the '57 Stratocaster specification, and although not a completely accurate historic reissue does include many vintage-correct features. There is limited clear information on the 'E Series' Stratocasters available online, but through research we have been able to ascertain that the model replaced the much loved 'JV' and 'SQ' series, and was made in the Fuji-Gen plant before production was moved out of Japan for later series.
Naturally, a bolt-on construction is employed, and comprises a Basswood body, Maple neck and 21 fret Maple fingerboard. Chrome hardware is fitted including a 6-point vintage-style tremolo bridge with bent steel saddles and Gotoh sealed tuning machines. A trio of flat-pole ceramic single-coil pickups are installed, and are wired to a 5-way blade switch, master volume, neck tone and bridge tone controls.
The Maple neck plays superbly, with a profile which might be described as a slim 'C' shape. This provides a smooth and responsive playing experience across the register, well suited to a wide range of playing styles and techniques. The Maple fingerboard is pleasant under the fingers, with some authentic playwear adding to the vintage vibe of the instrument. Along with vintage-style frets and 7.25" radius, the playing experience is perfect for anyone looking for a late '50s vibe in their Stratocaster.
The trio of flat-pole ceramic single-coil pickups installed in this instrument deliver classic Stratocaster tone. The bridge pickup is bright and glistening, with plenty of spank and power to make your rhythm parts and riffs sound gritty. With subtler amp settings the bridge offers a bright, glassy clean tone which shimmers beautifully. The middle pickup produces bright trebles and full warm bass, lending itself very well to funky rhythm tones. The neck pickup is rounder, with buttery smooth tones that are equally well suited to chordal phrasings and lead lines. The traditional control layout is as comprehensive and practical as ever, just as we expect from a Stratocaster.
