Here for sale we have a Squier Contemporary Active Starcaster semi-hollow electric guitar in Ice Blue Metallic finish. The Starcaster was introduced in the mid-1970s in an attempt to compete in the semi-hollow guitar market, which was dominated by Gibson's ES series at the time. The Starcaster was designed by Gene Fields to be a high quality instrument, although it was produced during the height of the CBS era when Fender's quality was not at its best. The model was unsuccessful at the time, and was discontinued by 1980. The instrument was reissued in 2013 as part of Fender's Modern Player series, and has remained in production ever since. 
 
This Squier Contemporary Active Starcaster was made in Indonesia in 2020, and features a bolt-on construction comprising a Laminated Maple body which is 'sealed' (with no 'F' holes) for minimised feedback, Maple neck and 22 fret Maple fingerboard. Black Chrome hardware is fitted, including a 6-saddle adjustable bridge, stop tail and sealed split-post tuning machines. A pair of Squier SQR Active Ceramic pickups are installed, and are wired to a 3-way toggle switch, master volume and master tone controls. 
 
The Maple neck plays very well, with the C Shape profile filling the hand nicely for a comfortable grip when chord playing, whilst remaining slim enough for fast articulate lead lines. The satin finish of the neck and fingerboard is pleasant in the hand and assists with smooth navigation of the 25.5" scale. The 12" fingerboard radius is a bit of a departure for Fender, and when paired with the Jumbo frets provides a smooth and durable playing surface which is equally suitable for chordal and melodic playing styles. The offset body design with generous double cutaways is comfortable in the arms whilst ensuring unrestricted access to the upper frets.
 
The pair of Squier SQR Active Ceramic humbucking pickups installed in this guitar deliver a massive high-output sound which will easily push your amp into a saturated distortion. A little warmer than some other active pickups, the SQRs retain plenty of character which works very nicely for clean sounds and rhythm playing. The bridge position produces a searing distortion tone which is perfect for rock and metal riffing, whilst the power of the neck pickup does the business on your solos and lead lines. The controls are nicely responsive, allowing you to dial in the perfect tone right on the guitar. A seriously cool and well-equipped update of the Starcaster.
