Hofner President Thinline E2 1963 Natural Gloss Hollow Body Electric Guitar
Here for sale we have a Hofner President Thinline E2 Hollow Body Electric Guitar in Natural Gloss finish. Made in Germany back in 1963, this guitar is a stunning example of the work that was coming out of the Hofner factory back then. With a set-neck construction, this guitar consists of a Laminated Spruce top, Flame Maple back and sides, a laminated Maple/Mahogany neck, and a 22-fret Rosewood fingerboard. Other features include a zero-fret, a "Lyre" style tailpiece, a Hofner "Micro-matic" bridge, and two Hofner "Staple" Type 511 pickups that are wired to two volume controls and two tone controls.
 
This President Thinline has a thick "C"-shaped neck that might seem intimidating at first but is actually very comfortable and fills the hand well without being overly cumbersome. The guitar has been carved beautifully with its single cutaway providing excellent access to the upper register of the guitar. The rounder radius makes playing chords an absolute breeze up and down the neck. The playability of this guitar is a prime example of how excellent build quality can stand the test of time.
 
The two Hofner "Staple" Type 511 pickups sound meaty and thick without having too high of an output. The guitar sounds very clear and articulate when unplugged and the pickups certainly translate this attribute well while also providing plenty of power. The President Thinline E2 is resonant, especially for a guitar of its humble depth and it sustains very well, feeling responsive yet controlled when plugged in.

    Aesthetic Condition:

    Headstock:Overall very good condition. Checking and cracking is present across all surfaces of the headstock, consistent with the age of the instrument.

    Neck: Overall very good condition, the fingerboard demonstrates moderate indentation throughout consistent with regular play wear. The rear of the neck demonstrates light indentations in places which can be slightly felt under the thumb in playing position. Finish cracking is apparent to all joints of the neck, most notably the heel. This does not impact the structural stability of the instrument. Notable finish checking is apparent throughout.

    Body: Overall good condition, the front face demonstrates consistent moderate to notable scratching, indentation and wear of the finish revealing the natural wood beneath. The sides and rear demonstrate consistent light to moderate scratching and indentation. Notable finish checking is apparent throughout.  

     

    Condition of Frets:

     

    The frets show notable signs of use, not affecting playability. Denting and flattening of the frets is noticeable through the entire register. There is moderate material remaining for any light fret work the new owner may wish to perform.

     

    Current Set Up:

    Truss Rod: Fully functional. Truss rod tool (7mm socket) not included.

    Hardware: Fully functional with notable signs of wear. The G-string tuner has bent, but still functions.

    Structural: No concerns or issues to note.

    Height of the string from the 12th Fret-1.5mm - Bass 2.25mm

    Electrics: 

    Fully functional. A hum is apparent, however this is typical for instruments of this age. some of the wiring harness has been replaced by the previous owner.
