Here for sale we have a Gibson Les Paul Traditional in Desert Burst finish. Made in the USA in 2008, this guitar harks back to the specifications of the original '50s instruments whilst maintaining some of the more modern conveniences that Gibson has been including with their Standard models. Naturally, a set-neck construction is employed and comprises a weight-relieved Mahogany body with AA grade Flame Maple top, Mahogany neck and 22 fret Rosewood fingerboard. A Chrome Nashville T-O-M bridge and StopBar tailpiece are fitted, along with Nickel finished Kluson Deluxe tuning machines with 'tulip' buttons. A pair of Gibson humbucking pickups are installed, with a '57 Classic in the neck and '57 Classic Plus in the bridge position. These are wired to the standard Les Paul controls.

The Mahogany neck plays wonderfully, with a profile which could be described as a moderately chunky 'D' shape. Whilst thick enough to inspire confidence in your grip when chord playing, the neck manages to avoid cumbersome 'baseball bat' territory. This provides comfortable playability across the register while giving a polite nod to the chunky 'Traditional' neck profiles of the '50s. The Rosewood of the fingerboard is rich and dark in appearance, and adds a sense of luxury to the playing experience. The weight relieved Mahogany body retains some serious weight, with the instrument coming in at 10.1lbs. Traditional weight relief just takes the edge off the original Les Paul weight, making the instrument a little easier on the shoulders while retaining the character and feel of the originals.

The pair of Gibson humbucking pickups installed in this guitar deliver thick and full-bodied tones, exemplifying the rock and blues tones that the Les Paul has long been renowned for. The neck position is warm and round, with plenty of power for pushing your lead lines and solos to the front of the mix. The '57 Classic Plus in the bridge is of course brighter, perfect for rock rhythm parts and riffing because it can handle a serious amount of gain. There is all of the snarl and bite that we associate with rockin' Les Paul tones, yet at the same time definition and clarity is retained. The pickups clean up nicely too, with shimmering clean sounds ready for the softer sections of the set. The traditional Les Paul controls are as versatile as ever, offering comprehensive control of your sound right on the guitar.
