Here for sale we have a very special Gibson Gary Moore Signature Les Paul in Lemon Burst finish. Made in the USA in 2000, this is the first incarnation of Gary's signature models and is largely based on the guitar he was most famously associated with; Greeny. Gary acquired Greeny from Peter Green himself around 1970. Gary used the guitar extensively throughout his solo career and with Thin Lizzy up until 2006 when he was forced to sell the guitar due to financial troubles. This first signature model was offered between 2000-2002, and whilst not a replica of Greeny, it does share many of its specifications designed to capture some of the magic of the original guitar. With no binding and no pickguard attached, the Gary Moore Signature has a unique look all of its own. 
 
Of course, a set -neck construction is employed and comprises a Mahogany body with book-matched Flame Maple top, Mahogany neck and 22 fret un-bound Rosewood fingerboard. Nickel hardware is fitted including a Nashville TOM bridge, Stopbar tailpiece & Gibson Deluxe tuning machines with 'Tulip' buttons. A pair of Gibson Burstbucker pickups are installed. These are the first edition of the Burstbucker which were newly available at the time of the guitar's release. The neck pickup is installed 'backwards' just at the neck pickup in Greeny had been. The pickups are wired to the standard Les Paul controls. 
 
The Mahogany neck plays incredibly well; the profile matched closely to that of the original guitar. Whilst certainly not a slim neck, it's surprising that it's not as thick as we might expect from a vintage instrument - certainly not a 'baseball bat'. There is plenty of vintage character and vibe on offer, whilst remaining slim enough for smooth and articulate lead lines and licks. The Rosewood of the fingerboard is luxurious under the fingers, providing a smooth and durable playing surface. At 8.9lbs the guitar carries an authentic vintage weight which is reassuring to hold on to in either seated or standing positions. 
 
Amplified, the pair of Gibson Burstbucker humbuckers deliver vintage-accurate sweet, rich and warm tones, perfect for those searching for the ultimate vintage sound just like Gary's. The Burstbucker series are Gibson's modern recreation of the PAF pickup and were announced in '96 before making their way into Gibson USA's new models around 2000. They make use of Alnico II magnets, 2 conductor wire and no wax potting, following the specification of the originals as closely as is reasonably possible. The neck is warm and round, and provides an impeccable lead tone for solos and melodic lines. The bridge is hotter, saturating into an incredibly rich distortion when driving your amp. Of course, the reversed neck pickup produces the nasally out of phase tone in the middle position that Greeny and Moore were renowned for. A seriously unique looking Les Paul inspired by arguably the best ever Les Paul and the player most associated with it.
