Here for sale we have an absolutely stunning Fender Custom Shop 1962 Jazzmaster In SeaFoam Green Relic finish. Crafted in the USA by Fenders' finest luthiers in 2013, this guitar is based on the 1962 Jazzmaster specification, and has been relic’d to display an instrument that has been played for decades. This offers a vintage appeal, showcasing moderate finish checking, hardware oxidation and mild discoloration to represent a guitar that has seen its fair share of stages.
A bolt-on construction is employed, and comprises an Alder body, Maple neck and 21 fret Rosewood fingerboard. Chrome/Nickel hardware is fitted, with a Chrome tremolo tailpiece and a Fender adjustable bridge, along with Nickel vintage-style split post tuning machines. A pair of hand wound Jazzmaster flat magnet single-coil pickups are fitted, and are wired to a 3-way toggle switch, master volume and master tone controls, as well as a 2-position rhythm circuit slide switch and rhythm volume and tone thumbwheel controls.
The Maple neck plays fantastically well, with the '62 Jazzmaster profile filling the hand nicely without feeling at all cumbersome. One might describe the profile as a 'D' shape, with a nicely flattened area to the centre which encourages ergonomic thumb positioning. Certainly, the neck feels smooth and responsive in all registers. The Rosewood fingerboard is pleasant under the fingers, and with its 9.5" radius and medium jumbo frets provides a rock-solid playing surface across the register.
The pair of Custom Shop hand wound Jazzmaster single-coils installed in this guitar are nothing short of exquisite, delivering sweet, crystal clear clean tones that shimmer and glisten. The neck pickup is warm and round and works well for lead lines and melodies. The bridge pickup is of course brighter, perfectly demonstrating the jangly trebles that the Jazzmaster has become known for in the hands of players like Johnny Marr. The rhythm circuit is as exciting as ever, offering a unique third voice to the instrument which with the thumbwheel controls remains just as flexible as the lead circuit. A stunning example of Fender's finest work.
