Here for sale we have a rather rare Don Everly SQ-180 Jumbo acoustic guitar in Ebony finish. The Everly Brothers were a pioneering and immensely popular American country-rock duo who influenced swathes of musicians around the world. In 1962 Gibson collaborated with them to produce the Everly Brothers Flattop as an homage to the J-200 type guitars they both played, some with customised double pickguards. Many famous artists have used the Everly Flattop guitars over the years, including Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan & Roger Daltrey to name but a few.
The Epiphone SQ-180 was closely based on these instruments, and was even authorised by Gibson USA, as shown by the 'Gibson' truss rod cover. They were produced from 1986-2006 and are quite rare to find on the market today. This example was made in China in 1992, and features a set-neck construction comprising Laminated Maple back and sides, Select Spruce top, Mahogany neck and a 20 fret Rosewood fingerboard with matching bridge. The instrument has a distinctive look thanks to its double Tortoiseshell pickguards which cover most of the top, as well as the star inlays and vintage script style 'Epiphone' headstock logo.
The Mahogany neck plays very well, with a rather unique feel thanks to its notably narrow nut width of 1.577" and a profile which might be described as a 'Soft V' shape. This ensures easy reach and comfortable playability across the register, well suited to the country rock and rockabilly that the Everly Brothers were known for. The Rosewood fingerboard feels luxurious under the fingers, being particularly dark in appearance. The star inlays are a unique touch which add a sense of exclusivity to the instrument, as do the dual pickguards. Whilst classified as a Jumbo, the body is not too large or cumbersome in either standing or seated positions.
The acoustic voice of the Don Everly SQ-180 is rich and clear, with plenty of brightness thanks to its Maple & Spruce construction. The Jumbo body size delivers ample volume, whilst the Select Spruce top projects very well and provides plenty of sensitive dynamic range. The bass response whilst unpronounced is accurate, and works well with the open clear mids & sparkling top end. This ensures that the instrument works well in a mix; cutting through easily without sounding too thin or brittle. In astonishing condition for 30+ years old, this is a rare and unique instrument which is sure to stand out from the crowd.

This is only visible under close scrutiny. All aspects show very light scratching under direct light, as is common with high gloss finishes. This is most notable to the centre of the front face.
Neck: Overall excellent condition. Very light scratching to the rear of the neck can be seen under direct light and close scrutiny, as is common with high gloss finishes. Light indentations are present to the fingerboard, most notably from the 14th fret upwards. These are not felt in the playing position and do not impact playability.
